New Chelsea signing Kalidou Koulibaly called club legend John Terry on the phone before taking his shirt number.
The Senegalese centre-back has signed for the Blues from Napoli this summer.
Koulibaly is well-versed in the club's recent history, and made a phone call to Terry to speak about taking on his no.26 shirt.
He posted a video of the phone call on Twitter, adding: "July 15th, 2022. Better call... @JohnTerry26. Honoured and proud."
"Sorry my English is not so good but I will try to do my best," Koulibaly begins, to which Terry replies: "Your English is very good, no problem."
Koulibaly goes on to say: "John, I wanted to ask you something, because, like you know, I played with the No.26 in Napoli and I see since you left the club nobody has taken your 26. I don't know if it's retired or if nobody wanted to take it but I wanted to ask you if it's possible for me to take it?"
Terry responds: "Ok listen, the 26 was very special to me and I really appreciate you calling and it's no problem for you to take it so absolute pleasure and I wish you well because I know how important the number was to me and obviously I see you wear 26 as well so it's my pleasure mate, I'll give you the 26."
Koulibaly replies: "Ah thank you very much, it will be a real pleasure. It will be a heavy shirt but I will try to do my best."
Terry adds: "No pressure mate, you go and keep winning trophies for us, ok?"
"Yeah, yeah of course," Koulibaly finishes.
Terry then finishes off by saying: "And listen, anything you need..."
