SANDAKAN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) here conducted 1,029 inspections across the district since Jan 1, uncovering 15 controlled goods violations with total seizures valued at RM726,375.54.

The inspections comprised 509 checks in urban areas and 520 in rural locations, with six cases compounded for a total of RM1,700 in fines while nine cases remain under investigation.

In an enforcement operation on January 28, action was taken against two traders in Kampung Ulu Sapi and Sapi Nangoh for allegedly selling controlled items without valid licences under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Seized items included 53 liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, 456kg of sugar, various cooking oil products and 102kg of wheat flour, with an estimated total value of RM13,926.

KPDN said inspections were intensified ahead of the Chinese New Year 2026 celebrations to monitor supply and pricing, ensure compliance with verified weighing instruments under the Weights and Measures Act 1972, and enforce price marking requirements under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, adding that operations will continue district-wide.
