PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has detained 10 individuals and seized items worth over RM4.9 million linked to a petrol misappropriation case.
KPDN Enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said an enforcement team detained a tanker lorry transferring controlled items to a berthed tanker ship during an operation on Wednesday.
Preliminary checks found several tanks on the ship contained suspected petrol, with further investigation revealing 929,124 litres of the fuel worth an estimated RM2.6 million stored in four tanks.
The operation led to the detention of nine foreigners and one local to assist with the investigation, according to a statement from Azman.
Authorities also seized the tanker ship, the tanker lorry, the petrol, and several other items believed to be used in the transfer, including rubber hoses and documents.
The total value of all seized items amounted to RM4,902,952.13 for the purpose of further investigation.
