The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living is closely monitoring the market, reporting no sudden price hikes as it engages with industry players facing rising operational costs

BANGI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has not received any reports of sudden price hikes in the market. Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh stated that food prices remain under control.

She said the ministry is keeping a close daily watch on goods and services prices. This vigilance aims to ensure consumers are not unduly burdened and that no party takes advantage of global conditions.

“We understand that global geopolitical factors affect costs worldwide,” Fuziah told reporters. She added that the ministry continues to engage with industry players for feedback on the current market situation.

Her comments follow recent statements from industry associations highlighting significant cost pressures. The Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (PRESMA) reported operators face a 10% to 30% increase in operating costs.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Malaysian Hawkers and Traders Associations warned food prices could rise by up to 50%. They cited increasing fuel and operational costs as the primary drivers.

Fuziah made these remarks after the closing ceremony of the National Level Young Entrepreneur Programme 2026.
