KPDN Pahang Launches Food Bank Initiative, Unsold Ramadan Bazaar Food Distributed to Those in Need

In an effort to reduce food waste at Ramadan bazaars, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Pahang has partnered with the GEMA Malaysia Youth Organisation (GEMA) and the Student Consumer Movement (GSP) to launch the 2026 Food Bank Initiative (i-FB), titled ‘MySaveFood Ramadan’.

Taking to their Facebook page, the Ministry explained that ‘MySaveFood Ramadan’ is a waste management initiative designed to collect surplus food from RAHMAH Ramadan Bazaars (BRRs) and distribute it to those in need.

Collaborative efforts and volunteering

Pahang KPDN stated:

“This programme was successfully implemented with the involvement of nine volunteers from the Student Consumer Movement of Widad University College and DRB-HICOM University.”

“Also participating in this programme are representatives from the Pekan Bandar Diraja Municipal Council, SWCorp Kuantan, SWCorp Pekan, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, Excellent Success Management Enterprise (ESME), and the Pekan Flea Market Traders Association.”

 

How much they’ve collected so far

Prior to this announcement, volunteers had already collected unsold food from two Ramadan bazaars on Monday (23 February) for distribution to the underprivileged:

  • 179.47 kgs of food from the Pantai Selamat Indera Mahkota Ramadan bazaar in Kuantan
  • 236.2 kgs of food from the Tasik Ramadan bazaar in Pekan

In addition to these two locations, there are plans to implement this programme at two further sites:

  • Kuala Lipis Ramadan bazaar: 2 March to 8 March
  • Muadzam Shah Ramadan bazaar: 9 March to 15 March

“The highest appreciation and thanks are expressed to all the volunteers who worked hard to make this programme a success,” the Ministry added.
