Kelantan KPDN seizes 605 litres of petrol and diesel and arrests four men after discovering modified fuel tanks in vehicles at the Rantau Panjang border.

KOTA BHARU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has seized subsidised petrol and diesel worth an estimated RM125,400.20 in a crackdown on smuggling activities.

Kelantan KPDN deputy director Aswadi Jaafar said the operation, codenamed Ops 555, was conducted at the ICQS Rantau Panjang Complex after authorities spotted four suspicious vehicles.

He explained that checks revealed all the vehicles’ fuel tanks had been modified beyond the original manufacturer’s specifications to boost capacity for siphoning larger quantities of fuel.

Four men aged between 30 and 50 were subsequently arrested for investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The seized items included three Hino and Isuzu lorries, a Proton Wira car, and the 605 litres of petrol and diesel found stored in the modified tanks and various bottles.

Aswadi added that Kelantan KPDN will continue to strengthen monitoring and enforcement to curb the smuggling of controlled goods, especially in border areas.
