Recently, a customer in Kuala Lumpur uploaded a side-by-side comparison of receipts showing a price increase for the same meal after visiting the eatery again the next day.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) announced on their Facebook page that they are taking swift action against the eatery in response to the news.

The enforcement team was sent to the eatery

KPDN revealed in their post that they had sent a team to the restaurant in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, where the customer was charged RM7.80 for sardine fried rice on August 8th (Thursday), but was billed RM9.30 the following day.

The KPDN enforcement team met with the restaurant supervisor to further investigate the pricing issue.

“We’ve checked the menu and saw that sardine fried rice is listed at RM9, with an extra RM0.30 for packaging clearly mentioned. For dine-in orders, there are no extra charges apart from the food price, plus a 6% SST,” they said.

The eatery has apologised for the issue

The eatery was issued a notice under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 which requires them to justify the price differences on the receipts.

The restaurant has been told to keep their price tags updated to avoid confusing customers and follow KPDN’s rules so they don’t make the same mistake again.

In response, the eatery has apologised for the issue and is prepared to reach out to the complainant to offer an explanation and address any concerns.
