Kreatif Sabah backs proposed film incentive for Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Federation of Creative Associations (Kreatif Sabah) welcomed a proposal by National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chairman Datuk Hans Isaac for the Sabah Government to offer an additional five to eight per cent incentive to strengthen the State’s film industry.

The proposed incentive would complement the existing 30 per cent Film in Malaysia Incentive (Fimi) rebate, making Sabah a more competitive destination for international filmmakers.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a Finas scriptwriting workshop here on Thursday, Kreatif Sabah chairman Chester Pang, representing 10 affiliated associations, presented a memorandum to Finas to expand strategic cooperation for the development of the creative industry across Sabah, particularly in rural areas.

Chester, who is also president of the Sabah Film and Visual Association (Safva), said Kreatif Sabah was committed to working closely with Finas to realise the proposed incentive while ensuring creative talent development reached communities beyond urban centres.

He also expressed appreciation to Finas for its continued support in improving the quality of Sabah-made films, adding that the three-day scriptwriting workshop held from May 6-8 was part of ongoing efforts to enhance creative content development in the State.
