The Kremlin says the Iran conflict has boosted demand for Russian oil and gas, as the US grants India a waiver to buy Russian oil.
MOSCOW: The Kremlin said the war in Iran has fuelled significant demand for Russian energy products. This statement came a day after the US Treasury issued a 30-day waiver allowing India to purchase Russian oil currently stuck at sea.
The conflict has left the critical Strait of Hormuz all-but shut. Countries worldwide are now cut off from a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia has been and remains a reliable supplier. “We are seeing a significant increase in demand for Russian energy resources in connection with the war in Iran,” Peskov said.
He emphasised Russia’s capability to guarantee the continuity of all contracted deliveries. Peskov declined to disclose possible volumes of Russian oil supplies to India following Washington’s waiver.
The US waiver for India followed months of American pressure on New Delhi not to buy Russian oil.
