Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has announced a generous offer for Klang Valley KTM commuters on January 24 and 25 in celebration of the Thaipusam festival scheduled for January 25. During this period, commuters can enjoy complimentary rides, a gesture aimed at facilitating travel for festival-goers.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized that even though the rides are free, commuters are required to scan their tickets at the automated control gates (ACG) at the stations, ensuring a smooth and organized boarding process. Anticipating a surge in passengers, Loke estimated that around 250,000 individuals would avail themselves of this service, with the peak expected on January 25.

In addition to the complimentary rides, Loke unveiled plans for extended KTM Komuter services operating 24 hours a day for four days, spanning from January 23 to 26. This initiative involves an increase in operational stations from 26 to 28 compared to the previous year. A total of 33 trains will cover the Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang-Batu Caves route, while 39 trains will operate on the Batu Caves-Port Klang-Batu Caves route.

The extended commuter services will commence at 9.55 pm on January 23 from Pulau Sebang to Batu Caves, running at an hourly frequency. Similarly, additional services from the Port Klang station to Batu Caves will begin at 11.39 pm, also operating with a one-hour frequency. Notably, no extra train services are scheduled from Tanjung Malim to Batu Caves. However, commuters from this route can conveniently access KTM Komuter trains by transferring to various stations.

Moreover, Loke highlighted KTMB's provision of four additional Electric Train Services (ETS) with 3,150 extra tickets from January 24 to 28. Two services daily are scheduled for the Butterworth-KL Sentral and KL Sentral-Butterworth routes on January 24 and 25. Subsequently, two daily services will run for the Padang Besar-KL Sentral and KL Sentral-Padang Besar routes from January 26 to 28. Ticket sales for these supplementary ETS trains will open on January 15 at noon, providing more travel options for the public during the festive period.
