KTYS urged to enhance academic, Tvet programmes to meet industry needs

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has urged Kolej Teknologi Yayasan Sabah (KTYS) to strengthen its delivery of academic education alongside Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) to meet evolving workforce and technological demands.

His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister cum Works and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam at the 29th KTYS Convocation Ceremony at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today.

Hajiji called on the institution's management to continuously adapt programmes using graduate outcomes, alumni feedback, and employer input, while urging industry players to actively offer training, guidance, and practical work experience to students.

He reiterated that the State Government allocated RM437.93 million under the Sabah Budget 2026 for comprehensive human capital development, marking the initial year of the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan 2.0 to expand higher education, skills training, and employment prospects.

Highlighting ongoing educational assistance, he noted that the Yayasan Sabah Group continues to provide study loans and scholarships, while the Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS) has distributed RM40 million to benefit 27,781 students across the state since June 2022.
