THE floods that hit several states continue to worsen as the number of victims increased to 13,921 as of 6pm today.
With the increase in cases in Kuala Lumpur, nine states are now affected by the disaster.
According to the latest Disaster Info report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), Kelantan continues to record the highest number of victims with 9,689 people placed in 39 temporary evacuation centres (PPS).
The affected districts include Tumpat, Bachok, Kota Bharu and Pasir Puteh.
The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said that the situation is still under control but close monitoring is continuing following the forecast of continued rain.
Perak is the second most affected state with 1,786 victims taking shelter in 20 PPS involving the areas of Perak Tengah, Manjung, Larut, Matang and Selama as well as Batang Padang.
Meanwhile, Terengganu recorded 160 victims with one PPS operating in Besut, while Kedah recorded 505 victims in three PPS in Kulim and six PPS in Kubang Pasu.
In Perlis, three districts were affected, namely Arau, Padang Besar and Kangar with 721 victims placed in eight PPS.
Penang reported 388 victims in four PPS involving Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah.
Meanwhile, Selangor recorded an increase with 640 victims from 210 families in 12 PPS in Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Hulu Langat and Shah Alam, while Sarawak recorded 44 victims involving six families in one PPS in Miri.
Authorities are reminding residents in at-risk areas to continue to comply with evacuation orders to avoid safety risks and to not carry out activities in rivers or areas that have the potential to be flooded suddenly.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) also advised the public to always monitor weather and river water levels, prepare basic necessities as an early preparation and prioritize family safety if ordered to evacuate.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) previously issued a warning of continued severe rain in several areas of the East Coast and northern Peninsular Malaysia throughout this week. – November 24, 2025
