Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced the closure of several routes in the capital city from August 5 to August 4, 2024. The closures are necessary to facilitate the construction of an overhead bridge at the Loke Yew roundabout and carry out renovation work in the area.

According to the official statement released on August 1, the affected roads include the Sungai Besi Road leading to Sungai Besi or Petaling Jaya (opposite Fraser Business Park) and the Loke Yew roundabout itself. During the closure period, commuters are advised to plan alternative routes to minimize inconvenience.

One of the alternative routes suggested by DBKL is a traffic diversion from the Kampung Pandan roundabout to Sungai Besi or Petaling Jaya. This diversion will be split into two sections, with one route passing through the road adjacent to Federal Bakery and entering the contra route in the adjoining lane.

For travelers heading from Sungai Besi or Petaling Jaya to the Kampung Pandan roundabout, they will be diverted to the left via the Loke Yew roundabout. It's worth noting that traffic from Cheras to Jalan Loke Yew will only be allowed to make a U-turn towards Cheras due to the closure of Loke Yew roundabout. This U-turn option will become a permanent traffic route.

In addition to these closures, traffic from Jalan Kinabalu towards Jalan Loke Yew and Jalan Sungai Besi will be rerouted to Jalan Yew, leading to the Pudu roundabout only. An alternative route is available via the U-turn at SMK (P) Pudu. Meanwhile, the Jalan Yew traffic route from the Kampung Pandan roundabout to Jalan Kinabalu and Jalan Kuching will be closed during the construction period. An alternative detour is recommended through Jalan Kampung Pandan, Jalan Imbi, and Jalan Hang Tuah.

Another area to undergo demolition and reconstruction is the bridge at the Pudu roundabout leading to Jalan Sungai Besi, near the Pudu Police Station. Consequently, the slip road from Jalan Pudu to Jalan Yew will be completely closed to all traffic during the construction phase. Drivers are advised to follow signages and instructions from traffic police to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and avoid confusion and difficulties.

The temporary closures and diversions are part of the city's effort to enhance transportation infrastructure and address traffic challenges. While these changes may cause some inconvenience during the construction period, DBKL urges the public to be patient and understanding. Once completed, the new overhead bridge and improved roadways are expected to contribute positively to the city's overall accessibility and mobility.
