Kota Kinabalu: Taanusiya Chetty from Kuala Lumpur was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2024 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old teacher captivated the judges and audience with her stunning beauty, poise and eloquence.

She will represent Malaysia at the Miss World pageant next year, competing against contestants from around the globe.

Taanusiya, who walked away with more than RM50,000 in cash and prizes, expressed her intention to use the Miss World platform to empower women, youth and children through education.

Sabah’s Kelly Eleanor Tseu, also a favourite, was named first runner-up.

The third to sixth places went to Hantze Liow (Kuala Lumpur), Plohmeena Sachpreet (Kuala Lumpur), Fillonie Francis and Lyn Sinsua (both from Sabah).

Other finalists in the competition, which embraced the mission of “Beauty with a Purpose,” included Tiffany Vaishenevi Pillai Ragupathi (Sabah), Car Menn Lee (Selangor), Nandhini Sundaram (Kedah), Nivashini Wadivello (Kuala Lumpur) and Sheena Devayani (Kuala Lumpur).

Earlier, State Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew said the competition was not just about crowning a new queen but also about empowering young women and inspiring them to make a difference.

“I am deeply moved by the dedication of the finalists tonight, who represent the diverse voices of Malaysia and share one dream — to create positive change in our country,” she said during the opening ceremony.

Also present was HyperLive Entertainment’s CEO and National Director of Miss World Malaysia, Dr Sean Wong.
