Kuantan airport runway closed till 1pm following Hornet fighter crash

FOLLOWING the crash of a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F/A-18D Hornet fighter at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport (Kuantan) last night, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said the runway is temporarily closed to facilitate clearing works.

It said a Notice to Airmen (Notam) has been issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the closure is expected to remain in effect until 1.00pm today.

"Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates," it said in a social media post.

Both pilots were reported to be safe and were rushed to hospital following the crash at 9.05pm. – August 22, 2025
