KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuching International Airport’s runway has been temporarily closed following an emergency landing involving an air force aircraft today, according to Malaysia Airports.

It issued a travel advisory on Facebook and said that the closure is expected to continue until 3pm today, and will impact all flight operations at the airport.

The aircraft involved is believed to be a Royal Malaysian Air Force CN235, which experienced landing gear malfunction, causing one of its wheels to reportedly detach during landing, according to reports.

“Following an aircraft-related incident at 11.30am today, the runway at Kuching International Airport (KIA) is currently closed to facilitate the removal of a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft and subsequent runway clearing works.

“A Notice to Airmen (Notam) has been issued, and the closure is expected to continue until 3pm today,” said the advisory.

The notice also advised passengers to check with their respective airlines on flight timing and cancellation. KIA will provide further updates once the runway is declared safe and open for flight operations by the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia.
