A shocking incident unfolded at an international school in Kuching this morning when a 16 year old male student allegedly brought an axe, firecrackers and other dangerous items onto school grounds, leaving a female teacher injured.

The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 7.49am, sending shockwaves through the school community.

According to chinapress, the teenager allegedly prepared for the attack inside a school toilet, where he mounted a mobile phone on his forehead to livestream the incident.

He reportedly proceeded towards a classroom while armed, causing panic among teachers and students. The chaotic scenes were allegedly broadcast online through his mobile phone.

However, the precise sequence of events and the extent of the alleged livestream remain subject to investigation.

Teacher Injured, Suspect Restrained

Sarawak Acting Police Commissioner Saifullizan Ishak confirmed that police received a report at approximately 8.03am involving a 16 year old student who allegedly injured a female teacher with an axe.

The teacher sustained injuries to her hand and was subsequently taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police also recovered a penknife and a small axe at the scene.

According to an email reportedly sent by the school to parents, the student had brought sharp objects onto campus without permission. The teacher was injured while attempting to confiscate the items.

School staff eventually restrained the teenager and escorted him to the principal's office while awaiting further arrangements. His parents were also contacted.

Police Launch Investigation

Authorities are investigating the incident under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons, as well as Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957.

Police are working to establish the teenager's motive and gather evidence surrounding the incident.

According to Bernama, the student was subsequently released on police oral bail after being detained to assist investigations.

Meanwhile, unverified claims circulating online suggest that the teenager is related to a prominent late Sarawak political figure. However, authorities have not confirmed these allegations.

Police have urged the public to avoid spreading speculation or unverified information.

Following the incident, the school announced an early dismissal and advised parents to check their emails for updated collection arrangements.

The incident has once again raised concerns about campus security, student safety and the potential influence of livestreaming on violent behaviour.
