
KUDAT: Tanjong Kapor Assemblyman Datuk Ben Chong hailed Kudat Fiesta 2024 as a catalyst for enhancing cultural values, traditions, economic growth and community unity in the district.
The event, organised by Kelab Belia Landung Ayang Laut under the leadership of Asirun Nurun @ Cuncun Oag, has shown such promise that Ben advocated for its continuation and enhancement as an annual fixture in Kudat.
Ben noted that the Fiesta brought the community together through various engaging activities.
It provided a platform for local traders while offering entertainment and showcasing talent through diverse competitions.

Read more He highlighted the revival of the coconut queen contest, praising participants’ creativity in designing coconut-based attire.
The event featured numerous attractions, including a battle of the bands with prizes up to RM3,000, strength competitions like arm wrestling and a strongman contest, cultural performances such as the igal-igal dance and family-friendly activities including a children’s traditional fashion show and colouring competition.
Lucky draws with attractive prizes, including a washing machine, added to the excitement.
Ben commended the organisers, emphasising how such events can positively channel youth energy away from potentially harmful activities.
With approximately 100 traders participating over the three-day event, he stressed the importance of similar future programmes for appreciating local talents, culture and traditions while boosting economic opportunities.
In his address, the Assemblyman urged public participation and support, recognising the dedication of organisers and volunteers who contributed their time, effort and resources.
Ben was confident that such initiatives would continue to foster harmony, vibrancy, tolerance, unity and progress in Kudat.
