IPOH Barat MP M. Kulasegaran today denied he was present in court when activist Arun Dorasamy was charged at the Jawi Magistrate’s Court in Penang.
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) said he only briefly met Arun as he was in Penang since yesterday, and stopped by the court on his way back.
“I have known him since I represented Indira Gandhi in her legal challenge concerning her children,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
“I just dropped by the court to speak to Arun about trusting the legal process and was not present in the courtroom when the charges were read and the proceedings held.
“As always, all parties are equal before the law and due process must be respected,” he said in a statement.
Kula's statement follows concerns raised by the Opposition about his presence at the court with Arun, who was charged with making a statement with the intention of causing public alarm in March last year.
Arun is the chairman of the Indira Gandhi Action Team, a group formed in support of Indira, while Kulasegaran previously served as Indira’s lawyer. – March 17, 2026
