A family of three from Punjab was rescued by bystanders from the strong currents of the Parbati river in Kullu district today.

The couple and their son were visiting Gurdwara Sahib in Manikaran. According to eyewitnesses, the family had gone near the river bank to click photographs. They reportedly ventured too close to the river and lost their footing. All three were swept away by the strong currents of the river. However, people present nearby immediately rushed to help and managed to pull out the trio.

Locals said fortunately dredging and embankment work was underway along the river stretch where the incident occurred. Owing to the work, the volume of water at the site was comparatively lower than usual, which helped rescuers reach the victims quickly and prevent them from being carried further downstream.

Meanwhile, district authorities have urged tourists to maintain a safe distance from rivers, streams and other fast-flowing water channels.
