Kota Kinabalu: The authorities are urged to act against alleged illegal activities that could threaten Kundasang’s thriving vegetable farming industry and affect the livelihood of the many foreign growers there.
Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh said if not stopped, it would also result in locals having to go without vegetables or be forced to buy more expensive imported temperate vegetables.
Harris, who was instrumental in encouraging the development of vegetable farms there during the Berjaya administration, said he was approached by representatives of local vegetable growers who were concerned about new restrictions imposed on foreign farmers, especially preventing them from selling their produce directly to buyers as before.
“The growers showed a Circular dated July 14, 2024, signed by three District Chiefs (OKKs) and senior government officials.
