
The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court to try the offences of rape and under the POCSO Act), Kurukshetra, has sentenced a youth to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The court has sentenced Ajay (24), a resident of Panipat, and also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him.
The Kurukshetra police spokesperson on Sunday informed that on April 28, 2023, a Pehowa resident, in his complaint at the City Pehowa Police Station, stated that his 17-year-old daughter was found to be missing from their house on April 26, 2023.
The family had inquired from their relatives, but to no avail. The parents had raised suspicion that a boy had lured and eloped with their minor daughter.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered. During the investigation, the girl was recovered on May 28, and after medical examination, charges of rape were included in the FIR registered. The accused was arrested for luring and eloping with the minor girl and sexually assaulting her.
The court has sentenced Ajay to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The court has also sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 363 of the IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. Additionally, he has also been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 366 of the IPC along with a fine of Rs 50,000.
All the sentences will run concurrently, and 50 per cent of the fine imposed on the convict will be paid to the victim for rehabilitation.
