The students and staff of Kurukshetra University are set to get a new cafeteria and a revamped rose garden in the university for which two alumni of the university are providing 5 lakh US dollars.

As per the Director Public Relations of Kurukshetra University Dr Maha Singh Poonia, Hemant Gupta and Nalini Gupta, US-based alumni couple from the 1972 batch of Kurukshetra University had pledged to give an amount of 5 lakh US dollars for the construction of a cafeteria and rejuvenation of the rose garden. Of the pledged amount, while 2 lakh US dollars have already been received by the university, the remaining funds will be released as the project progresses.

Hemant and Nalini Gupta acknowledged that the education, values, guidance and life principles imparted by Kurukshetra University played a pivotal role in every achievement of their lives. Despite living in the United States for the past three decades, they have remained emotionally and spiritually attached to their alma mater.

While pledging the amount, Hemant Gupta had remarked that this contribution is not merely financial aid but a humble expression of reverence, gratitude and affection for the institution that shaped them. He expressed hope that the modern cafeteria and the upgraded garden would serve as hubs for inspiration, interaction and creative activities for students, faculty and visitors alike, informed Maha Singh.

Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said that the foundation stone ceremony was performed on Tuesday for the construction of a new cafeteria and the rejuvenation of the rose garden in the campus.

“The project would significantly enhance the aesthetic appeal and environmental ambience of the university. The project aligns with Kurukshetra University’s vision of modernidation, promotion of a green campus and expansion of student-centric facilities,” he said.

Prof Sachdeva expressed gratitude to KU alumni Hemant Gupta and Nalini Gupta for their financial support towards the ambitious project. He said their contribution would serve as an inspiration for future generations. The continued support and commitment of the university’s alumni have provided a new direction to Kurukshetra University’s growth and development.

The project will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, a two-storey cafeteria building spread over 11,000 square feet will be constructed, while the second phase will focus on the landscaping and rejuvenation of the garden.

Deputy Director of the Alumni Association, Dr Kanwal Garg remarked that the garden has long been one of the iconic landmarks of the university campus and that the financial support would help give it a new and magnificent identity.
