Drone strikes spark fire at Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery as Gulf states report multiple attacks from Iran, targeting energy infrastructure.
KUWAIT CITY: Drone attacks caused a fire at Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery on Friday. State media reported the incident as authorities across several Gulf states responded to attacks from Iran.
The official Kuwait News Agency cited the national oil company confirming “several hostile drone attacks” hit the refinery. It said the fires caused no casualties.
Firefighters worked to contain the blazes while several refinery units were shut down. The attacks are part of a recent escalation by Iran against Gulf energy infrastructure.
Iran has stepped up assaults in recent days, also hitting refineries and the world’s largest gas hub in Qatar. Tehran says it is retaliating for Israeli strikes on its South Pars gas field.
Earlier on Friday, Bahrain’s interior ministry said shrapnel from an “Iranian aggression” caused a warehouse fire. That blaze was brought under control with no injuries reported.
In Kuwait, an army statement said air defences were “responding to hostile missile and drone threats”. The UAE also reported “incoming missile and drone threats from Iran”.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they targeted US forces at the UAE’s Al-Dhafra air base. They also claimed to have hit sites in Israel with missiles and drones.
Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said its forces intercepted and destroyed more than a dozen drones in the country’s east and another in the north. This action occurred within about two hours.
