One person was killed and dozens of others were injured in the latest Iranian attacks in Kuwait on Wednesday, the Gulf country's Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry added in a statement that the drone attacks targeted civilian installations, including Kuwait's main airport and unspecified diplomatic missions.

Sixty-three people were taken to hospital due to injuries sustained in the attack, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health said.

Those injured included civilians, workers at the airport and travellers, the ministry added. Some serious cases underwent emergency surgeries, according to the ministry's spokesman.

The injuries included fractures, head wounds, brain bleeds and limb amputations, the official said.

Kuwait's armed forces said they had intercepted 13 Iranian missiles and 17 Iranian drones on Wednesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Kuwaiti Army said several "hostile" drones had targeted a passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport in a "heinous" Iranian attack.

It caused severe structural damage in the passenger area of the airport's Terminal 1 building

The armed forces were ready to take "any steps" necessary to protect the security and stability of the Gulf state, a spokesman for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence said.

The US military said it had intercepted a "wave of Iranian drones" that had targeted US military facilities in the small country.

Initially, the Kuwaiti civil aviation authority said all flights had been suspended or diverted to other airports "until further notice" as a result of the attack.

Iranian missiles and drones had struck and damaged several facilities at the airport, the authority said. An emergency plan had been activated at the airport, it added.

Later Wednesday, the authority announced that only the flights of the national carrier, Kuwait Airways, had resumed after the damage was assessed and the "necessary" measures were taken to ensure the safety of operational processes.

The airport in the Kuwaiti capital was previously hit during the Iran war.
Air traffic across the Middle East had already been severely disrupted in recent months as a result of Iran's conflict with the United States and Israel.

In March, hundreds of thousands of travellers were stranded in the region and some were flown home on evacuation flights.

Bahrain, another Gulf state, said on Wednesday its air defences had intercepted three missiles and several drones. No information on potential casualties or damage was given.

The army of the island kingdom, home to the United States 5th Fleet, accused Iran of continuing its "systematic hostile approach" by carrying out drone and missile attacks against the country.

Since the US and Israel unleashed a bombing campaign on Iran in late February, Iran has repeatedly attacked Kuwait and Bahrain and other Gulf states that host US military facilities.
