Kuwait came under drone attack on Sunday, despite the current ceasefire, with its defence forces reacting to a number of "hostile drones," a Defence Ministry spokesman said.

He did not add any further details but said the country and its population would be protected.

The United Arab Emirates also reported fresh attacks on Sunday. The UAE Ministry of Defence stated that its air defences had successfully intercepted two Iranian drones. There were no casualties.

On Thursday, Iran and the United States exchanged attacks, despite the ceasefire. And on Friday, US forces attacked two oil tankers sailing under the Iranian flag and disabled them near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has attacked Gulf states hosting US bases since US and Israeli attacks that resumed at the end of February. Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, in particular, have come under attack.

Kuwait has reported more than 1,000 missile and drone attacks targeting mainly military and energy installations.

The UAE has reported attacks involving around 550 missiles, 30 cruise missiles and 2,200 drones during the war, according to ministry figures.
