
The 42nd annual day of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (SGGSCC), Delhi University, was marked by celebration and recognition as Lieutenant-Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta honoured outstanding students and highlighted the critical role of youth in shaping India’s future.
The event began with a ceremonial welcome, followed by the felicitation of students who excelled in academics, sports and extracurricular activities. Awards including Best Student of the Year, Best Sportsperson, Best NCC Cadet and Alumnus of the Year were presented, recognising excellence and overall contribution.
Addressing the gathering, L-G Sandhu spoke about the rapidly changing global environment and urged students to remain adaptable and continuously upgrade their skills.
“Youth power will play the most crucial role in building a developed India,” he said.
He encouraged students to go beyond personal achievements and contribute actively to society, emphasising discipline, responsibility and lifelong learning. Referring to India’s current growth phase, he noted that young people have a unique opportunity to lead and innovate.
CM Gupta congratulated the award winning students and praised their hard work and dedication. She highlighted the role of institutions like SGGSCC in nurturing leadership and preparing students for future challenges.
“Knowledge, skills and innovation of young people are India’s greatest strengths,” she said.
She also underlined the Delhi Government’s focus on strengthening education through digital learning, innovation and skill-based initiatives.
“The youth of the country are India’s greatest strength in the journey towards becoming a developed nation, and the Delhi Government is making continuous efforts to provide them with better opportunities,” she said.
The programme concluded with an interaction between the L-G and students, where he encouraged open dialogue and exchange of ideas. Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, along with senior university officials, educationists, parents and students, were also present at the event.
