La Mesa Dam overflows

MANILA, Philippines — La Mesa Dam's water level reached 80.18 meters at 5:40 p.m. Monday, exceeding its 80.15 meter spilling level, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The excess water from the dam may flood areas along the Tullahan River that stretch from Quezon City and traverse the cities of Caloocan, Valenzuela, Malabon and Navotas.

In its 5 p.m. weather advisory, Pagasa said Zambales, Bataan and Occidental Mindoro could receive 100 to 200 mm of rain until Tuesday afternoon, described as heavy to intense.

That amount of rain could bring flooding and landslides, particularly in areas that have already received significant rainfall, the weather bureau said.
