LABUAN: Labuan Women’s Affairs Association Chief Fauziah Datuk Din hopes the department under the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for the Federal Territories will ensure that the appointees in the local authority are based on their merit and not political affiliation.

She said the recent move by the Anwar-led Unity Government to terminate the contracts of political appointees in government-linked companies should be followed.

Fauziah was speaking in the context of the six Advisory Council seats in the Labuan Corporation (LC) which have been vacant for about six months and are due to be filled soon. She said individuals with calibre would be able to play an affective role in local authorities.
