
LABUAN: A 41-year-old man lost his life after rescuing seven neighbours from their blazing double-storey terrace house at Merinding Garden in Jalan OKK Daud, here, Wednesday.
Labuan Police Chief Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said police were alerted about the fire at 4.17am.
Preliminary investigations showed that firefighters doused the fire and that seven people, comprising six females and a male, aged between four and 67, were rescued.
It is believed that Gillian Donald collapsed from extreme exhaustion after pulling the last person to safety.

The cause of death was attributed to severe breathing complications resulting from inhaling excessive smoke. The body has been sent for post mortem.
The Fire and Rescue Department’s preliminary findings indicated that the fire began in one of the victims’ cars before spreading to the house.
