Kota Kinabalu: State Public Service Commission Deputy Secretary Norhaidah Matnor highlighted the under-representation of non-Bumiputera individuals in Sabah’s public service.

Speaking at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Sabah branch, she noted a significant lack of interest from non-Bumiputera applicants.

Matnor confirmed that non-Bumiputera representation is considerably low attributed this partly to the comparatively lower starting salaries in the public sector compared to the private sector.

However, she emphasized the benefits of government employment, including annual salary increases and job security.

Norhaidah’s presentation covered the necessary qualifications for government positions and offered valuable interview preparation advice to students.

The event, attended by TAR UMT students and representatives from Sabah MCA Youth (Roger Yap) and TAR UMT (Pang Vui Lee), aimed to encourage wider participation in the public sector.

Matnor expressed hope for increased non-Bumiputera applications in the future.
