The Ladakh administration on Wednesday declared the hotels and guest houses registered with the tourism department in the Union territory as “industry”, thus extending a range of incentives and infrastructure support at par with other industries.

The registered hotels will now be eligible for electricity and water tariff at industrial rates, which is cheaper than the existing commercial rates. They can also avail concessional bank loans under the state/Central Government industrial policies, and get exemption from Property Tax.

“Another historic day for the Tourism Sector in Ladakh. Have ordered to declare the Hotels & Guest Houses, registered with Tourism Dept in Ladakh, as ‘Industry’, that would benefit these units with incentives, concessions and infrastructure support, at par with other Industries in the UT. The move is aligned with Hon’ble PM, Shri @narendramodi ji’s consistent push to strengthening the domestic tourism sector through incentives and policy guidelines," said an order passed by Lieutenant Governor, Ladakh, VK Saxena.

“This order shall apply w.e.f. June 1, 2026. Benefits of ‘Industries’ status include: 1. Eligibility for electricity & water tariff at industrial rates, which is cheaper than the existing commercial rates. 2. Eligibility for concessional bank loans, under the State/ Central Govt industrial policies. 3. Exemption from Property Tax," it said.

The LG said the move would reduce the operating costs of hotels and guest houses and enhance investor confidence in Ladakh.

He said the step would create an enabling environment for the expansion and strengthening of the hospitality industry and ensure a memorable experience to the tourists visiting the region.

Officials said the move aligns with the Central Government’s push to promote domestic tourism through targeted incentives and policy support.
