In many ways, there is almost a sense of deja vu for those of us who have been around long enough to witness the unveiling of Born This Way during the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2011. Marking her return to music’s biggest night in 2025, Lady Gaga has ushered the dawn of a new age in dark, electropop with raven bangs and a Victorian-inspired full gown with the release of Abracadabra.

The 38-year-old hitmaker, outfitted by stylist Nick Royal of Hard Style, donned a dramatic piece by American fashion designer Samuel Lewis.

Lady Gaga returns to the GRAMMYs with Abracadabra music video

The snugly corseted look made a clear statement with dramatically sharp shoulder details, a high neckline, and a touch of bondage chic with all-over lace details, evoking a Gothic flair that was especially reminiscent of her hallmark style from 2012. All as intended of course, given how Lewis was also the brains behind the hauntingly grotesque costumes from Gaga’s previous music video, Disease.

Her look was further complemented by an archival 1930s tourmaline, onyx and pearl necklace, courtesy of American jewellers Tiffany & Co., matched with yellow and white diamond stud earrings and a ring set with dazzling diamond and tsavorite stones.

What fans have been truly anticipating, however, was the official debut of Abracadabra, the third single from her upcoming seventh studio album, Mayhem.

Hitting airwaves during a commercial break of the event’s live telecast, the 4-and-a-half-minute-long music video has already been well-received by longstanding fans who credit her return to form with visual references to Alejandro, especially in its choice of colour palette and set arrangement.

First seen in a maroon latex gown with a broad-rimmed spiked hat overlooking a troupe of white dancers, the camera then pans down to feature Gaga in an all-white ensemble with a dramatic lace cape, denoting themes of ecclesiastical light versus darkness that has previously been a mainstay in her most celebrated works.

As of writing, the video has already racked up more than 700,000 views in under two hours of its release.

Gaga received nominations in both Song of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories for her lead single, Die With A Smile featuring Bruno Mars, winning the latter. Check out the music video and lyrics for Abracadabra below:

Intro:
Abracadabra, abracadabra (Ha) Abracadabra, abracadabra (Yeah)

Verse 1:
Pay the toll to the angels
Drawn in circles in the clouds (Ooh)
Keep your mind on the distance
When the devil turns around (Ooh)

Pre-Chorus:
Hold me in your heart tonight
And the magic of the dark moonlight (Oh)
Save me from this empty fight
In the game of life
Like a poem said by a lady in red
You hear the last few words of your life
With a haunting dance, now you’re both in a trance
It’s time to cast your spell on the night

Chorus:
Abracadabra, abra-ooh-na-na
Abracadabra, abra-ooh-ga-ga
Abracadabra, abra-ooh-na-na
In her tongue she said, “Dare for love tonight”

Post-Chorus:
Abracadabra, abracadabra
Abracadabra, abracadabra
Feel the heat under your feet, thе floor’s on fire
Abracadabra, abracadabra Abracadabra, abracadabra

Verse 2:
Choose the road on thе west side
As the dust flies, watch it burn (Ooh)
Don’t waste time on feeling
Use your passion, move again

Pre-Chorus:
Hold me in your heart tonight
And the magic of the dark moonlight (Ooh)
Save me from this empty fight
In the game of life Like a poem said by a lady in red
You hear the last few words of your life
With a haunting dance, now you’re both in a trance
It’s time to cast your spell on the night

Chorus:
Abracadabra, abra-ooh-na-na
Abracadabra, abra-ooh-ga-ga
Abracadabra, abra-ooh-na-na
In her tongue she said, “Dare for love tonight”

Abracadabra, abracadabra
Feel the heat under your feet, the floor’s on fire

Fall down, fall down and talk to me
Sing for me your sinful melody
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh (Rah)

Chorus:
Abracadabra, abra-ooh-na-na In her tongue she said, “Dare for love tonight”
