LAHAD DATU: The brave action of a manager of a gold shop successfully thwarted a robbery attempt at Dataran Palma, here, Monday.

District Police Chief ACP Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad said the manager was preparing to open the shop when a man approached it about 8.39am.

The man, clad in a dark shirt and pants as well as wearing a cap and face mask, approached the counter and pointed a pistol, believed to be fake, towards the manager.

The perpetrator also handed a bag and ordered the manager to fill it with jewellery.

Read more The manager, however, threw a metal towards the suspect who backed out and fled the shop.

“Police rushed to the scene and are currently tracing down the suspect who, according to the CCTV footings, is in his 40s and about five feet and five inches tall,” he said.

Rohan urged anyone with information pertaining the incident to come forward to any nearby police station or contact ASP Suddin Tjinke, Chief of Crime Investigation Division, at 017-4881755.

The case is being investigated under Section 393/397 of the Penal Code.
