Just right on the Deepavali day when our fellow Indians are celebrating Deepavali, we Malaysian kpoppers are having fun in Lalaport too!
The Stage Time Lalaport Kpop Dance Competition, a two-day event organized by VTWO Brand Concept, attracted more than 30 local K-pop dance crews as well as hundreds of audience members to witness the new Malaysian K-pop star. The judges line-up was incredible too including Jaedon from A-Class Project and Jayden, a Malaysian TikToker with 1.2 million fans.
The competition includes Under 8, Under 12, Solo, and Group Categories on the first day of the event, and the Open Category on the second day. The competition on day two was thrilling as every team was so good that you could hardly predict who'd be the winner. Everyone just pours out everything they have been practicing for months, or even years!
Bubble. Y, the champion of the Under 12 Group Category, also competed in the Open Category of the second day! They are all so young but they still manage to impress the audience with “Queencard” by (G)I-DLE. The potential in them to become the next generation of K-pop stars can truly be seen in their performance, which also achieved the vision of this competition, “Dance like no one’s watching”.
The open category features 23 K-pop dance crews from different parts of Malaysia. Despite the fact that not all of them are professional dancers, some of them even compete for the first time, but their confidence and stage presence transformed them into instant K-pop stars.
DistriXt, who returns to the stage for the first time in awhile with their new cover stage “TRICKY HOUSE” by xikers, is also the potential star of the competition, which gets the highest K-pop identity marks out of the 23 groups. They were surprised by the result as they didn’t expect to bring any prizes back home for their first stage, in which they were also the 4th runner-up of the competition.
The champion of the competition, VERENDUS, expressed gratitude for the title and all the support from their beloved supporters. They are beyond grateful for the champion title, as it proves that all of their blood, sweat, and tears over the last three months were worthwhile.
Despite the fact that it's a new routine without having full members on stage to perform, they still manage to find a song that best suits all of the members to show off their incredible talent. They proved that they are not just “Malaysia The Boyz,” but they can also handle different styles of K-pop idols. One of the members, Roy, stated that his biggest wish as a team is to compete internationally and to hopefully bring the Malaysian K-pop dance scene to the next level.
The judge's showcase added another layer of excitement to the event too! Despite having to perform alone, Jaedon surprises the audience with his incredible solo stage, while Jayden, as expected, the TikTok star, also impressed the audience with his stage to “Seven” by Jungkook of BTS.
Something unique about this competition is that the organiser prepared every contestant with an honourable award as an encouragement to keep their potential going! It was really nice to see everyone take something home with them. The competition concluded with a heartwarming group photo of all the winners marking the end of the memorable holiday!
