As Matchday 11 of the LALIGA EA SPORTS season approaches, excitement is growing ahead of the first ELCLASICO of the 2024/25 season. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona will resume their rivalry at the Bernabéu, however that isn’t the only big game of the weekend. There are several other important and intriguing fixtures on the schedule too.

The very first of them is RCD Espanyol vs Sevilla FC, a duel between two teams who suffered heavy away losses last weekend. In recent times, the Andalusian club have dominated this fixture, since Sevilla FC have won seven and drawn three of their past 10 meetings. However, Los Pericos will hope that home advantage can help them to snap that run in this weekend’s Friday night game.

Saturday is the day of ELCLASICO and there are three matches to enjoy before the main course. The first is Real Valladolid vs Villarreal CF, as El Submarino Amarillo look to pick up their first win of October. Marcelino’s men started the season incredibly well, but need to return to form if they wish to remain inside the Champions League positions, where they currently reside.

Rayo Vallecano host the next game of the day, as they take on a Deportivo Alavés side that have lost four in a row. The Basque outfit’s past two visits to Vallecas both ended in 2-0 defeats, so the formbook isn’t looking promising for them as Carlos Vicente and co. look to get back to winning ways.

Next up is the second game of the Diego Martínez era at UD Las Palmas. The new coach achieved a 3-2 victory over Valencia CF in his first game in charge of Los Amarillos, ending their 23-match winless run in LALIGA EA SPORTS. As such, optimism has returned at the Estadio de Gran Canaria and they host Girona FC there in Matchday 11.

Then, it’s time for the 189th ever ELCLASICO in LALIGA EA SPORTS. Real Madrid hold the historical edge over FC Barcelona, with 79 victories for Los Blancos, compared to 74 wins for the Catalan side and 35 draws. Furthermore, in recent times Real Madrid have won each of the past four clashes with their rivals across all competitions. Currently, though, it’s Barça who are the leaders of LALIGA EA SPORTS, holding a three-point advantage over their old foes, and Hansi Flick’s side are playing some excellent football. Now it’s time to put that to the test in the German coach’s first ELCLASICO.

There is a lot more action to come on Sunday and Monday, such as CD Leganés vs RC Celta. Óscar Rodríguez was the hero the last time these two clubs met at the Estadio Butarque, as he scored two goals in a 3-2 win for Lega. Now back at the club, he’ll hope to lead the team to a much-needed three-point haul.

The action then moves just five kilometres across the south of Madrid to Getafe CF’s Coliseum, where Los Azulones host Valencia CF. This is always a special fixture for coach José Bordalás as he takes on his former club. Last season, both teams won their home meeting 1-0, so it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top this time.

On Sunday evening, there is another huge game as Real Betis host Atlético de Madrid, a duel of two of the most experienced coaches in the competition in Manuel Pellegrini and Diego Simeone. The Argentinian’s record against Real Betis is excellent, as he has only lost once to Los Verdiblancos as a coach in 25 meetings, but Atleti did draw at the Estadio Benito Villamarín and really need all three points this time if they’re close in on whoever drops points in ELCLASICO.

Real Sociedad vs CA Osasuna is the final game of Sunday and it’s always an intense battle whenever the Basque and Navarre sides meet. Their last meeting was a 1-0 away win for CA Osasuna, courtesy of an Ante Budimir goal, which snapped a 17-game winless streak for Los Rojillos against La Real. They’ll want to enjoy more success against their northern neighbours in this match at the Reale Arena.

The final game of the round is another fascinating one, as RCD Mallorca and Athletic Club come face to face. These clubs enter Matchday 11 tied on 17 points and in the fifth and sixth positions in the table, so they could hardly be more evenly matched. Considering this is also their first meeting since last season’s Copa del Rey final, which Athletic Club won, it promises to be a thrilling way to conclude this matchday.
