The end of the season will not only see the best team in LaLiga Santander over 38 games crowned, but also the players who deserve special recognition. The Pichichi, Zamora and Zarra trophies are thus awarded every year to the competition’s top scorer, the goalkeeper who conceded the fewest goals per game and the top Spanish scorer in LaLiga Santander, respectively.
Although we are in the final stretch of the season, the stakes are high and there are still no definite winners, but the favourites are getting closer and closer to the prizes.
Pichichi Trophy
The Pichichi Trophy for the 2021/22 season has a clear favourite with just a few rounds of competition remaining. Real Madrid’s No.9, Karim Benzema, leads the way with 26 goals in LaLiga Santander and is well clear of the chasing pack. Although not impossible, it seems unlikely that a striker other than the Real Madrid man will lift the trophy at the end of the season. Raúl de Tomás (RCD Espanyol), Enes Unal (Getafe CF) and Iago Aspas (RC Celta) have 15 goals in total each, and complete the podium of this season’s top scorers. They are followed by Juanmi (Real Betis) and Vini Jr (Real Madrid) with 14.
Zamora Trophy
The Zamora Trophy is more interesting than ever, and is still undecided. Sevilla FC goalkeeper Bono is the frontrunner with a goals conceded ratio of just 0.79 goals per game. But there are three other goalkeepers who, with a good end to the season, can take the prize away from the Moroccan. Real Madrid stalwart Thibaut Courtois lies in second with a ratio of 0.85, ahead of Villarreal CF’s Geronimo Rulli (0.86) and Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro (0.87). And with only four games to go, they are very close to the lead, which could change the outcome with regard to the final winner.
Bono still has four games left to play in order to secure the award and the goalkeeper is set to face Villarreal CF, RCD Mallorca, Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club. His opponents don’t have an easy schedule either. Rulli will face Sevilla FC, Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona. Remiro will be aiming to make the breakthrough against Levante UD, Cádiz CF, Villarreal CF and Atlético de Madrid. Thibaut Courtois will also be trying his luck against Atlético de Madrid, Levante UD, Cádiz CF and Real Betis.

Zarra Trophy
The Zarra Trophy is awarded to the Spanish top scorer in LaLiga Santander. The final rounds of the season will be decisive in choosing a winner in a tight race where nothing is decided. Raúl de Tomás, RCD Espanyol’s attacking leader, currently leads the standings with 15 goals, along with Iago Aspas (RC Celta). But they are closely followed by other top Spanish goal scorers in the championship such as Juanmi (Real Betis), with 14 goals scored.
Raúl de Tomás will face CA Osasuna, Deportivo Alavés, Valencia CF and Granada FC, as he looks to consolidate his lead and win the prize. Iago Aspas will have to score against Deportivo Alaves, FC Barcelona, Elche CF and Valencia CF. And Juanmi will do the same as he meets teams such as FC Barcelona, Valencia CF, Granada CF and Real Betis.
But other home-grown strikers such as Joselu can also dream of winning the trophy such as Joselu (Deportivo Alavés) who has 13 goals, Jose Luis Morales of Levante UD with 12 goals, as well as Valencia CF midfielder Carlos Soler who has scored 11 goals. Everything will be decided in the last few exciting rounds.
