KAPIT – Land acquisition by the government is unavoidable for the implementation of development projects for the benefit of the people, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said that each land acquisition from the people for a government project was not undertaken for free but based on the provisions in Chapter 81 of the State Land Code and Article 13 of the federal constitution.
“All the land acquired will receive compensation payment based on Sarawak Land and Survey Department’s valuation, taking into account the existing crops, building structures if any and the size of the land involved, based on the current land value.”
Nanta said this at the handing out of the Bumiputera communal reserve gazette and compensation payment cheque for the Kapit Mara Professional College construction project, here, today.
Nanta, who is also the incumbent Kapit MP, also said that it was not right for people to accuse the government of being mean to the landowners.
At the event, 18 landowners received their cheques for land compensation payment amounting to RM931,549.30. – Bernama, October 20, 2022
