The Land Port Management System (LPMS) was inaugurated at the Integrated Check Post (ICP), Attari, by Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday.
Giving information in this regard, Suraj Bhan, manager at Land Ports Authority, Attari, said the Ministry of Home Affairs was implementing a four-pronged strategy to secure India’s borders with the concept of smart borders. The ports authority will play a key role in this smart border vision. He added that the LPMS takes into account the needs and security of all stakeholders. This system, combined with the concept of a smart border, will create an impenetrable and secure border.
He stated that the LPMS and smart border together would create a more secure and modern border system. He added that this would halt illegal activities and the creation of a secure border system. Bhan added that the LPAI had developed a modern, digital, integrated and real-time management system for its land ports.
In the coming days, the LPMS will be an important component of the country’s smart security grid, ensuring both economic and physical security. He stated that this initiative by the LPAI would help realise the concept of a smart border. This system will provide a unified digital platform for cargo, passenger and vehicle management. This will enhance coordination between various agencies and simplify information exchange. 90 per cent of paperwork will be eliminated.
A single electronic window and automatic number plate recognition-based gate operation system will significantly save time. Waiting times for trucks will be reduced by approximately 40-60 per cent and gate processing time will be reduced by 22-35 per cent. This will not only increase trade, but will also boost tourism and enable better coordination, dialogue and cultural exchange between the citizens of both countries.
Through the LPMS, real-time data sharing on a single platform of ICEGATE, motor vehicle system, CBIC, BSF, DGFT, UIDAI and ULIP will strengthen coordination among border agencies. He said that the platform for coordination and information exchange among all these would prove to be very convenient for the country and provide new impetus to development. The ICP Attari has been lying non-operational after Operation Sindoor.
