Tuaran: Commuters on Jalan Timbok-Kiulu which connects Telipok town and Kiulu are asked to use an alternative route to avoid the risk after a landslide occurred in Kampung Logkou Baru, Telipok, Thursday afternoon.
A check at the location of the 30-metre landslide that occurred at 6.16pm saw one direction of the road cut off.
Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar said they received an emergency call on the incident at 6.22pm and deployed three officers to the scene.
“So far, small vehicles can still pass on the shoulder of the road, but other vehicle users are advised to use alternative routes due to the uncertain weather,” he said.
According to him, joint monitoring with other agencies including the Public Works Department (JKR) was being carried out.
Simon Likog, 46, who was on his way from Telipok to his home in Kiulu, said the incident happened during heavy rain that started at 3pm.
“I was driving slowly when I heard a loud noise. I immediately stopped the car and upon checking, was shocked to see a landslide,” he said.
The Tuaran Public Works Department (JKR) has installed a traffic management plan (TMP) at the location and recommended vehicle users from Kota Kinabalu heading to Kiulu to continue using the Jalan Tuaran-Tamparuli route.
