
Kota Kinabalu: A landslide near Taman Elok Bukit Nenas on Wednesday following heavy rain resulted in the deaths of two children, severe injuries to a woman and minor injuries to a man. Fire and Rescue Department said the dead were Norain Julaziz, 11, and Isa Sabri, two. Both succumbed to injuries in hospital.
Siti Nur, 28, suffered a fractured arm and Sabri Botong, 28, a minor leg injury. After receiving a distress call at 8.26 pm, firefighters from Lintas and Kota Kinabalu under the command of Zainuddin Saidi went to the scene. Police and members of the Red Crescent were also on hand.
The landslide buried the family home, leaving three people trapped under the rubble and one person with minor injuries.
The two-year-old boy was taken to the hospital and the team and bystanders helped two female victims.
Staff of the fire and rescue’s Emergency Response Medical Services team provided first aid.
Last September, three people including a woman and a girl were killed in a landslide following a thunderstorm at Jalan Bundusan. The 25-year-old woman and the five-year-old girl died at the scene from their injuries.
In 2017, a landslide at Mile 25, Jalan Labuk in Sandakan resulted in the death of one construction worker and minor injuries for another. An eight-year-old girl was killed, and a woman and man were severely injured when their house in Kg Terusan Lahad Datu was buried in a landslide in 2012.
