Landslide, mudflows hit main road in Tambunan after heavy rain

TAMBUNAN: Heavy continuous rain here triggered a landslide and muddy flash floods along the main road of Kampung Sinungkalangan around 3pm on Monday.

District development officer (DDO) Prem G Kitingan confirmed that the severe weather compromised the road structure, posing risks to road users.

An inspection at the scene revealed riverbank erosion that deposited soil, undergrowth, and fallen trees onto the stretch, partially blocking traffic.

Fast-flowing water carrying thick mud and small rocks overflowed onto the road near residential areas, stranding several vehicles attempting to navigate the deep sludge.

Villagers and commuters planning to use the route have been advised to remain cautious and avoid high-risk areas while authorities monitor the situation and carry out cleanup and repair work.
