Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded, causing a 2km-long traffic jam, following a landslide that blocked both lanes at Kilometre 27 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai near Gua Sejuk in Kelantan yesterday (Tuesday, May 20).

According to a report by Kosmo, the Gua Musang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, shared that his department received a phone call from the public at around 7:30pm, informing them of the landslide blocking traffic in the area.

The incident is believed to have been caused by continuous rain since the day before, leading to a landslide that covered the road and causing vehicles from both directions to become stranded.

“Police are controlling traffic, and the Public Works Department has informed the Main Ring Road Project to carry out cleaning work. No casualties or vehicle damage were reported,” he said.

However, due to the pouring rain, the police could not predict when the road would reopen to vehicles.

“It depends on how quickly help arrives for cleaning work. There are no alternative roads that can be used, and road users and all other parties need to be patient while the cleaning work is carried out,” he added.

Thankfully, the road was reopened at 11pm last night thanks to the cleaning efforts of contractors on the scene.
