Kota Kinabalu: Jalan Ranau to Sandakan has been closed to all vehicles due to a landslide, resulting in fallen trees blocking the route in the area early Monday.

The Sabah Public Works Department (PWD), in a statement Monday, said there is no alternative road to divert motorists and that cleaning works are currently being carried out.

It said the landslide occurred at Km 167.9, Taviu Forest Reserve, Ranau.

“The landslide is believed to be due to continuous heavy rain last (Sunday) night. Inspection and installation of the Traffic Management Plan have been carried out in the affected areas,” it said.

Jalan Ranau to Sandakan is one of the main roads connecting Sabah’s west coast and east coast. Ranau is a district in the interior of Sabah.

It is about 117km east of Kota Kinabalu.

Meanwhile, in TELUPID, four roads and nine villages were hit by flash floods due to days of torrential rain.

The affected villages are Kampung Gana Jati, Kampung Liningkung, Kampung Bauto, Kampung Ansuan, Kampung Baba, Kampung Berayung, Kampung Taviu, Kampung Gambaron and Kampung Wonod.

The affected roads are Kampung Ansuan, Kampung Baba, Kampung Taviu and Kampung Wonod.

Members of Civil Defence Force were mobilised to the affected areas as early as 6am on Monday to monitoring the disconnected roads of Kampung Taviu, Kampung Gambaron and Kampung Wonod due to the raising water level.

Rescuers are now evacuating villagers stranded at 20 houses in Kampung Ansuan and 30 houses in Kampung Baba.

In KINABATANGAN, the water level showed an increase. However, the situation stabilised because of the Kinabatangan River.
