Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 30 (ANI): A large number of pilgrims gathered at the registration centre in Jammu on Monday as current registration and token distribution for the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra got underway ahead of the commencement of the pilgrimage.

The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu on July 2, while the pilgrimage from the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps is scheduled to begin on July 3.

The administration has made extensive arrangements for current registration at the Jammu Tawi Riverfront, where devotees have started arriving to obtain tokens and complete registration formalities.

Authorities have also put in place facilities, including drinking water, langar services, and elaborate security arrangements, to facilitate the smooth movement and convenience of pilgrims at the token distribution and registration centre.

Further arrangements are in place to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the yatra.

CRPF Commandant Rajesh Kumar said multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place, with X-ray screening, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and multi-tier security deployed to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

Speaking to ANI on Monday, Kumar said every pilgrim undergoes security screening at the frisking point before proceeding on the yatra. He added that all baggage and vehicles are thoroughly checked as part of the security protocol.

"Firstly, pilgrims come to our frisking point where they undergo X-ray screening. Multiple teams of the CRPF's bomb disposal squads and dog squads are deployed at the site. Every piece of luggage and every vehicle is inspected," Kumar said.

He said the CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other security agencies were working in close coordination to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the pilgrimage.

"The CRPF, J-K Police, and other security forces are working diligently to manage the entire pilgrimage," he said.

Kumar further informed that registration facilities have also been set up in Pahalgam town for the convenience of devotees. (ANI)
