
SANDAKAN: A large-scale mangrove planting activity was organised by the Sabah Forestry Department (SFD) at the mudflat next to Pulau ISME, adjacent to the Weston Forest Reserve.
The initiative, held in collaboration with the Natural Resources Office (NRO) of Sabah and the International Society for Mangrove Ecosystems (ISME), aimed to enhance awareness and conservation of mangrove forests.
The event saw the participation of the Secretary of Natural Resources, Sernam Singh, who attended as the Guest of Honour. The Chief Conservator of Forests was represented by his deputy on R&D, Dr Arthur Chung.
Additionally, 10 students and two teachers from Tokyo Metropolitan Kunitachi Senior High School took part in the activity as part of their study tour to Sabah. They were led by Emeritus Professor Shigeyuki Baba, the Executive Director of ISME.
