MR D.I.Y. Art Competition returns with RM100,000 cash prizes up for grabs!

Over RM100,000 cash prizes to be won

Malaysia’s largest home improvement retailer, MR D.I.Y. Group [M] Berhad [MR D.I.Y.], is proud to announce the return of its Art Competition. Now in its third year, interested artists may submit their entries before 30 March 2024 and send their artwork photos before 30 April 2024.

This year's theme, ‘Reality of Abstraction,’ explores the connection between imagination and reality. Artists are encouraged to interpret this theme abstractly, using colors, shapes, and emotions to capture the elusive nature of ideas and translate them onto canvas. They can distort familiar scenes or deconstruct conventional forms to represent reality in unique ways.

The competition is even more exciting this year as it offers lucrative cash prizes of more than RM100,000 to 40 winners in two main categories: Public and Educational Institutions. Winners will stand a chance to win the Grand Prize, Judges Pick Award, CEO Award, Founder Award, Creative Artist Award, Spotlight Award, and MR D.I.Y. Outstanding Award for each category.

This marks the third edition of the MR D.I.Y. Art Competition. In 2023, Mohd Fizrie Azhan bin Mohd Torikat was awarded the Grand Prize for his artwork 'The Journey No. 1', based on the theme "Hot or Cold." In 2022, Mohd Syazwan Bin Abd Rahim won the Grand Prize for his artwork ‘Upside Down’, based on the theme "Kita Jaga Kita. What’s Next Malaysia?".

The retailer launched the competition in 2022 with the aim of cultivating an appreciation for Malaysian art amongst the wider public, which it hoped would, in turn, promote a rich and diverse creative ecosystem in the country. Additionally, the retailer hopes to provide a sustainable platform for art talents nationwide to be nurtured and grown, as one of the many ways it seeks to add value to Malaysia and the lives of Malaysians.

Interested artists must submit their entries on the MR D.I.Y. website before 30 March 2024 and include a short statement (no more than 200 words) to describe their artwork. The artwork photo must be submitted to MR D.I.Y. at yongjui.foo@mrdiy.com no later than 30 April 2024.
