SHAH ALAM, June 11 — The family of Selangor scholarship recipient Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, who was tragically killed in a road accident in October last year, has received a takaful protection compensation amounting to RM20,803.67.

The compensation was presented by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari to his parents, Ku Azmi Saad and Hafizah Iszahanid, during a ceremony at the State Secretariat Building today.

In addition to the compensation, the state government has also waived the late Ku Adib’s education loan under the Selangor State Scholarship Fund (TKWBNS), which amounted to RM15,050.

Meanwhile, Ku Azmi, 48, expressed his gratitude for the state’s contribution and for easing the process of waiving his eldest son’s education loan.

“On the night of the incident, Dato’ Seri came to visit. We informed him that our son was a recipient of the Selangor scholarship, and we inquired about the remaining balance — whether it needed to be repaid.

“Dato’ Seri said it was like a National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan. The remaining amount would be waived.

“So we prepared the documents. The state government asked for some time, and today we were informed that repayment was not necessary. On top of that, we were also given insurance,” he said.

On October 9, 2024, the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Terengganu student perished alongside two friends after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) near its Dungun campus.

Also killed in the accident were Khairil Anwar Jamaludin and Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin. Another friend, Muhammad Ammar Danish Mohammad Ridhuan, was seriously injured.

At the time of the incident, Ku Azmi and Hafizah were on their way to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to perform the Umrah pilgrimage. However, upon arrival and being informed of their son’s demise, the couple immediately returned home.
