Porsche has updated its Taycan electric car with a series of revisions and a new ‘E-Shift’ function.

The new technology is designed to simulate the feel and sound of a traditional paddle gearshift, with a virtual rec-counter and ‘noticeable shift jerks’ incorporated into the system. Accessed via wheel-mounted paddles, the E-Shift technology will allow drivers to change through eight simulated gears.

It’s combined with a Porsche Electric Sport Sound which is produced both inside and outside the car. There’s even a gear shift light in the instrument cluster. However, drivers can revert the car back to fully automatic mode when needed.

Improved efficiency on this latest generation Taycan means that range has been boosted by 20 km to a total of 700 km. It comes thanks to new summer tyres with a low rolling resistance, which help the car to bring far better efficiency than before. These tyres can be added as an extra pack when specifying the car from the factory, too.

Porsche has also carried over its new infotainment system from its Cayenne and Electric models to the new Taycan. As a result, it’s got five times the computing power compared with its predecessor, bringing faster responses as a result. Cleaner graphics and sharper animations should make the whole system easier to operate, while new ‘widgets’ bring quicker access to popular functions.

A new, more powerful wireless charging pad means that drivers can charge up their phones more quickly. In addition, the infotainment can now be updated entirely via over-the-air updates, keeping things current at all times.
