- Two Latvian nationals, aged 36 and 32, residing in the UK, have been arrested following a security breach at the RAF Molesworth military base in Cambridgeshire on Wednesday 7 October.
- Ministry of Defence Police officers discovered an abandoned vehicle near the base at around 10pm, leading to searches that revealed a small breach in the site's perimeter fence.
- The men were initially detained on suspicion of trespass and criminal damage, but have since been further arrested under section 4 of the National Security Act 2023 on suspicion of entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK.
- Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London are leading the investigation into the suspects' motivations, with police confirming both men currently remain in custody.
- Commander Helen Flanagan stated that while enquiries are ongoing with an open mind, there is currently nothing to suggest a connection to recent events at RAF Fairford.
